Why Engage an Accountant to Complete Your Individual Tax Return?
Tax returns can be complicated or simple, depending on the complexity of your income situation.
If you are someone who earns a single income and receives no further income, then you are more than likely capable of completing your tax return.
But what if:
- You own property or securities?
- Or you’re a sole trader who earns income through your own contracting business?
- Received dividends that have partial franking credits?
- Received income from other sources such as trust distributions, rental income or a partnership?
- What if you have foreign investments?
Plus, many more!
A solid relationship with a tax accountant can help you claim what you are entitled to, advise on what receipts to keep and how to maximise your tax return.
Who Our Individual Tax Return Preparation Suits
Our individual tax return preparation is for people whose tax affairs go beyond a single wage.
That includes people who own a rental property, hold shares or crypto, receive trust distributions or partnership income, or earn money overseas. It also suits sole traders and contractors, and anyone with more than one year of returns to catch up on.
You deal with a chartered accountant and your own client manager, and you can email or call them with questions at any time of year.
How Your Return Is Prepared and Lodged
We start with the information the ATO already holds. As a registered tax agent, we can use the ATO’s pre-fill information for your return, such as income reported by your employers and interest from your bank. Then we ask for what the ATO will not have, such as receipts for work-related expenses, rental statements, records of shares or crypto you sold, and details of overseas income.
Once the return is prepared, we go through it with you and lodge it after you approve it. If something is likely to draw questions from the ATO, we raise it with you before lodging.
The date to remember is 31 October. A return you lodge yourself is due then, and you need to contact us before that date to get the later due dates that come with lodging through a tax agent.
If you are a sole trader and keep your books in Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks, we can work from that file, so your business income and expenses go into the return from the same records.
Book a free 20-minute meeting with one of our accountants for a later date, or call 1300 411 022, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. If you would rather talk sooner, you can book a paid priority appointment on our booking page. You are welcome at our office at Unit 4, 23 Hunt St, North Parramatta, or we can do the whole return by phone and email.
